Police Hunt for Killer Bandits

A manhunt has been launched by the Kenya Police in pursuit of bandits who killed 11 people including 8 GSU officers in Turkana East. The bandits who are believed to be from the Pokot community, have continued their reign of terror in the region.

The attack claimed Mary Ekai a peace ambassador and Dr Ekuru Aukot’s sister. According to Turkana Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi, the peace crusader was in the company of a patrol team comprising General Service Unit officers, police reservists and general duty personnel that had left that morning to pursue bandits who attacked Ngikengoi village in Elelea sub-location, Katilia ward.

The Kenya Police Service has today released a statement through their spokesperson Bruno Shioso. Mr Shioso says that a multi agency team has been dispatched in the volatile area to ensure that all the bandits are apprehended and brought to book.

“A multi-agency security operation has today been launched in the area to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms, and return normalcy to the area,” read part of the statement by the police spokesperson.

The police spokesperson went ahead to condemn the act and made an affirmation that not a single one bandit who participated in the deadly attack will escape unpunished.

“Such acts of criminality and impunity shall not be tolerated and must be brought to an end at all costs. As such, bandits terrorizing innocent people have been put on notice,” said the police spokesperson.

He also urged the local communities to support the government’s efforts in returning normalcy to the region by giving security agents information that may assist in the apprehension of the deadly bandits.

The deployment comes just a day after President William Ruto said that he is following the matter closely and that he has instructed the security organs to deal with the matter firmly, decisively and conclusively.
