IG Mutyambai and DCI Kinoti Out, Koome In

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has rendered his resignation while the Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has proceeded on terminal leave.

The two police chiefs had been at loggerheads with the then Deputy President and now President William Ruto for allegedly trying to slow down his campaign. Dr Ruto is even at one time quoted to have said the IG Mutyambai is the most incompetent Inspector General in the world.

The news of their resignation were announced by the president when he was naming his cabinet on September 27. Mutyambai’s term was to expire in March 2023, thus he was remaining with about six months to his exit.

Outgoing Director of the DCI George Maingi Kinoti, was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on January 5, 2018, to replace Ndegwa Muhoro. Before his appointment he was previously the National Police Spokesman based in the office of the Inspector General of Police.

President Ruto has already set the ball running in finding their replacement with him nominating Japheth Koome who is currently the Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo.

Mr Koome’s nomination was confirmed by Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena

“His Excellency President William Ruto has nominated Eng Japhet Koome Nchebere to the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) as promised during the Head of State’s Address to the Nation this afternoon,” Dena said Tuesday.

On the other hand, the National Police Service Commision has fourteen days to announce the vacancy of Director DCI as a replacement for George Kinoti
