President William Ruto named his cabinet yesterday giving a lifeline to some of his allies who lost in the August 9th elections. The president who named his cabinet after meeting the former administration’s outgoing cabinet at the Statehouse in Nairobi.

Moses Kuria

The former Gatundu South MP and party leader of Chama Cha Kazi unsuccessfully vied in the Kiambu Gubernatorial contest where he performed dismally with the former senator Kimani Wamatangi emerging top. The former banker has been given the Trade docket.

Ezekiel Machogu

Mr Ezekiel Machogu has been appointed as the Cabinet Secretary in the ministry of Education after unsuccessfully running to succeed Governor Ongwae as the Kisii county governor. ODM’s Simba Arati got the better of him and won in the hotly contested election that saw Machogu emerge second.

Aisha Jumwa

The controversial coastal supremo has been nominated into the cabinet as the CS for Public Service and Gender. This is a reprieve after failing in her attempt to succeed Senate speaker Jeffa Kingi as the Kilifi Governor. The former parliamentarian and key ally of Dr Ruto at the coastal region was defeated by ODM’s Gideon Mung’aro.

Mithika Linturi

The former Meru county senator and an unsuccessful governor aspirant in the August polls, Mithika Linturi has been redeemed by president Ruto after being named the Agriculture CS replacing Hon Peter Munya. In the Meru gubernatorial contest which came as a shocker with both the former governor Hon Kiraitu Murungi and former senator Mithika Linturi being floored by Kawira Mwangaza who vied on an independent ticket.

Penina Malonza

Penina Malonza has been tasked with heading the Tourism Ministry taking over from Najib Balala who had served in the docket for a cumulative 12 years which spanned from the Mwai Kibaki era into the Uhuru Kenyatta era. Mrs Malonza had served as Kitui county deputy governor under Governor  Malombe between 2013 and 2017 before they fell out. She unsuccessfully vied for Kitui county MP in the August Polls

Susan Wafula

The new Health CS is also a poll loser who has been considered in the cabinet. The supplies chain and procurement expert unsuccessfully vied for Transnzoia county women MP on a Ford Kenya ticket before losing out to Lilian Chebet of UDA.
