Forgive My son Muhoozi- Museveni

Ugandan president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today apologized to Kenyans in what he termed as “untimely and wrong” tweets by his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In a series of tweets by the former commander of Uganda’s land forces who was yesterday promoted to the rank of a full general, Mr Kainerugaba insisted that he could lead his forces into kenya and take Nairobi within two weeks. In another tweet he insinuated that Former President Uhuru Kenyatta should have run for a third term which he, (Gen Muhoozi) thinks he could have won with a landslide.

” I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of Land Forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.” Read part of the statement.

“I is not correct for Public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way, in the internal affairs of brother countries. The only available legitimate forum is the Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union or confidential interactions among us or EAC and AU fora –not public comments,” added the longest serving head of state in East Africa.

President Museveni who has Uganda’s president since he took power  since 29 January 1986. Yoweri Museveni spearheaded rebellions with aid of then current military general Tito Okello that toppled Ugandan presidents Milton Obote and Idi Amin before he captured power in 1986.

Museveni who is set to retire in 2026, has been seen to be keen with having his first born son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as his successor. Dubbed the ‘Tweeting General’,  the 48 year old Muhoozi has a penchant for stirring up social media with his tweets. He has at one point tweeted support for Tigrayian rebels in Ethiopia, voiced support for armed groups in Eastern DRC and even claimed that the whole of Africa supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

President Museveni is said to have called President William Ruto over the same and offered Uganda’s apology. “I have conveyed all those views confidentially to H.E. Ruto, the President of Kenya, ” read the statement.
