Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga attended a “Bunge la Mwananchi” session at Jevanjee gardens in Nairobi. This is after the group invited the former premier to listen take part in their discussion.
The Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya Alliance party leader was accompanied by city legistlators Babu Owino of Embakasi East and Lang’ata’s Jalang’o, Caleb Amisi of Saboti was also present. He urged kenyans not to give up on the democratic ideals and be ready to defend the gains we have made as a country.
“I listened and encouraged them to remain vigilant of our hard-won constitutional rights. Freedom of association and speech is a key pillar of our democracy,” Raila said.
Raila Odinga also faulted the government for lifting fuel subsidies which were to blame for the high cost of living. He has also cautioned Kenyans to brace themselves for a higher cost of living, stating that the next three months will be unbearable under President William Ruto’s administration.
He explained that subsidies which had been introduced by former president Uhuru were a way to cushion Kenyans as it was a global problem but president Ruto had rubbished them saying they were not sustainable.
“We will give them 100 days and wait and see what they will do. They used to blame Uhuru, and yet the former president was facing the same challenges as world leaders. These challenges are the reasons why Uhuru had so many subsidies. They have removed them saying it will be unsustainable,” he stated.
Nonetheless, he called on his supporters to remain calm, promising to always keep the government in check
