The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has given the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji and ultimatum of 72 hours to furnish them with reasons why corruption cases are being withdrawn. Failure to do that will make the LSK sue the DPP so that he can be accountable for his actions.
“We will take appropriate action of he fails to respond. There are several options in law to hold him accountable,” said LSK President Eric Theuri on Thursday
This comes after the DPP withdrew corruption charges on several high profile individuals thought to be President William Ruto’s allies.
Public Service and Gender Cabinet secretary nominee Aisha Jumwa was let off the hook for a 19 million graft case, she was being accused of misappropriating CDF monies when she was Malindi MP.
Another who has found reprieve is Ben Chumo of Kenya Power. He had been accused together with 10 others of a conspiracy to defraud the state corporation 400 million in the irregular purchase of transformers. Chumo had been charged 2018 alongside Muwa Company Limited for willful failure to comply with procurement procedures in the purchase of the transformers.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday said it was compiling reports on the suitability of each of the nominees to block those with questionable integrity.
