McTomminay’s Last Gasp Strike Wins it for Man United

Scott McTomminay struck deep into stoppage time to rescue an elusive three points for Manchester United in their Europa League group match against Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford.

The scotman who joined the fray as a substitute saved the day for Eric Ten Haag’s side overcoming the heroics of Omonia Nicosia’s goalkeeper Francis Uzoho. This was after a dominant display by the home side who dominated every aspect of the game but had failed to do the most important thing. They couldn’t just get the ball cross the goal line.

Omonia arrived in Manchester having lost five of their last seven matches, including last Thursday’s 3-2 defeat to United, but produced a defiant, heroic stand, epitomised by inspired goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, as Neil Lennon’s side came within seconds of leaving Old Trafford with the unlikeliest of points.

Francis Uzoho had denied Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandez and Antony at cross range before Casemiro struck the crossbar.  United erased a frustrating evening in front of goal in the 93rd minute when McTominay finally found the breakthrough with their 34th attempt on goal.

The win takes united to the second Europa League Group E, three points behind leaders Real Sociedad, but know victory in their final two matches will see them progress into the round-of-16 as group winners without having to face a side demoted from the Champions League in a play-off.

Other fixures saw Arsenal beat Bodo/Glint 1-0, Real Betis and Roma settled for one all draw, Lazio 2-2 SK Sturm Graz, Braga 3-3 Union Saint-Gilloise  while Trabzorspo thrashed Monaco 4-0
