Day one of vetting Cabinet Secretary nominees by the Parliamentary Appointment Committee revealed how the individuals headed for the cabinet are filthy rich.
Prime Cabinet Secretary nominee Musalia Mudavadi, Attorney General nominee Justin Muturi, Foreign Affairs CS nominee Alfred Mutua, Defence CS nominee Aden Duale and Water CS nominee Alice Wahome were yesterday grilled by the August house.
What left many baffled is the sheer wealth the nominees have to their names. This is a departure from the campaign rhetoric they sold to Kenyans in support of Kenya Kwanza, they came on the premise that unlike their competitors who were very rich, themselves were just hustlers like majority of Kenyans.
Musalia Mudavadi who has been fronted for Prime CS position by the President was the richest of the nominees vetted on day one. The former ANC party leader who has held posts such as Vice president, Deputy Prime Minister, Treasury CS and Member of parliament in his long career in politics, is worth about 4 billion Kenya shillings.
He said that his current sources of income are rental, dividends where he has the shares and interests and other expenses that come from his farm.
Next was former National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi who was being vetted for the post of Attorney General, placed his total assets to be KSh 700 million on his part. What left Kenyans talking was how his wealth more than doubled within a year as he had just last year put his wealth at 300 million in a tweet
Aden Duale the Defense Cabinet Secretary nominee revealed that he was valued at Sh851 million, where he pointed out that it included an annual income of Sh10m from rental property and livestock.
Former Machakos governor and Foreign Affairs CS nominee was at pains to explain his wealth which he had declared to be 420 million. Junet Mohammed asked about the ownership of A&L hotel in Machakos as he was not convinced that he was only worth 420 million with the luxurious hotel in the picture.
The Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS nominee Alice Wahome placed her assets at KES 218 million on her part. The Kandara MP revealed that she co-owns most of her property with her husband and placed their gross wealth at about 392 million
