Babu Owino Rewarded by ODM

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has landed a new position in ODM as the party leader Raila Odinga reorganizes the party structure. The firebrand legislator has been named secretary of Science and Technology.

The changes were communicated by the registrar of political parties Anne Nderitu through a gazette notice dated 21st October. The decision had been ratified by the party leader Raila Odinga who is currently out of the country.

Babu Owino replaced Steve Mbogo who had run for Starehe MP in 2017 on an ODM ticket but would shift camps to Jimmy Wanjigi’s Safina party in the run up to 2022 elections.

Other changes saw Kwale woman representative Zuleikha Juma Hassan make an entry into the party structure by being appointed deputy organising secretary. She replaced Owen Baya who had decamped to the ruling UDA party during the run up to the August 8th elections.

Other politicians who assumed leadership positions included Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, who was named national organising secretary. The position was previously held by Abdikadir Mohamed.

Johnes Mwashushe Mwaruma was appointed ODM’s deputy chairperson, succeeding Thomas Mwadeghu, while Stella Chepkirui was named secretary for the environment.

The registrar of political parties Anne Nderitu also invited those who have reservations about the new appointments to communicate their displeasure within 7 days.

“Any person with written submissions concerning the intended changes by the political party shall within seven (7) days from the date of this publication make their written submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties,” read the notice in part.
