Ruto Turning Out to be a Dictator, Kalonzo Now Says

Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance principal Kalonzo Musyoka has come out to accuse President William Ruto of what he terms signs of dictatorship as the president makes unilateral desicions.

The former Vice President addressed the media after having a meeting with Azimio affiliated leaders. Kalonzo  questioned the concreteness of Ruto’s declarations claiming that the head of state does not have the backing of an approved Cabinet.

“The President, as the head of state and government, exercises the executive authority of the Republic with the assistance of the Deputy President and Cabinet Secretaries.” said Kalonzo

The president had made a number of declarations during the Mashujaa day celebrations in which Kalonzo attended. Among them was the building of 100 dams through a public-private partnership, disbandment of the Special Service Unit(SSU), creation of a special fund for the National Police Service and the Judiciary. The president also promised to start a fertilizer manufacturing company in collaboration with other East African countries.

“Who prepared the report leading to the ongoing purge of the DCI? Who decided that we can manufacture fertilizers jointly with a neighbouring country or build dams on a PPP basis?” the Wiper Party Leader wondered.

“Our Constitution does not give him the leeway to impose decisions on the country just because he is president,” the statement read in part.

Kalonzo is worried that the moves and declarations president Ruto is making are ulterior and are more likely to take him to the path of dictatorship. He likened this to past dictatorial regimes in the world.

The Wiper party leader took issue with the president appointing loyalists to positions that should otherwise be occupied by competent Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliations.

“But Kenyans should take a very early note that the personalized decision making, combined with what is clearly a tendency by Ruto to promote loyalists and other ‘yes men and women’, puts the country at great risk of miscalculation and misstep.

“We know it because we have been there before as a country, and we have also witnessed it cripple many of our neighbors,” Kalonzo stated.
