DCI Officers in Custody Amid Investigations on the Disappearance of Indian Nationals

Four detectives who were part of the disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) have been placed under custody as investigations narrow down to those involved in the kidnapping and disappearance of two Indian nationals and their Kenyan driver.

The four detectives were picked up by investigators to aid in unravelling the disappearance of Mr Zulfiqar Khan, Mr Mohamed Zaid and Mr Nicodemus Mwania are believed to have been kidnapped near a hotel on Mombasa Road on July 23.

This is after forensic analysis placed them around the scene where the Indian nationals and their Kenyan driver were abducted and also in a forest in central Kenya where remains of bodies believed to belong to those kidnapped were found. The bodies which were found to have been badly mutilated probably by wild animals are yet to be identified.

The four detectives who include a chief Inspector, a corporal and two sergeants are believed to have participated in the heinous act after the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) found out that a Subaru Forrester vehicle attached to the DCI was used for the abduction.

The vehicle, which was captured by a security camera on Mombasa Road on the night the three disappeared, was also seen on Upper Hill and Thika Superhighway. The sergeant was found to be the one attached to the vehicle on that fateful day. Upon questioning, it was established that he was in the company of the chief Inspector and the two corporals.

The two Indians who had entered the country as tourists, were believed to have come in the run-up of the August 9th election to join Dr Ruto’s Presidential digital campaign team. One of them Mr Khan was a renowned media personality in India. The Indian government is mounting pressure on the Kenyan government about the whereabouts of their two citizens.
