Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called President William Ruto over the death of journalist Arshad Sharif. The journalist was killed yesterday along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in a case which the police are saying it was a mistaken identity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz requested the president that rigorous and transparent investigations are conducted to ascertain what really went on. Dr Ruto on the other hand, pledged to give any support needed including making arrangements for the body to be flown back to Pakistan for internment.
“Just had a telephonic call with Kenyan President William Ruto about the tragic death of Arshad Sharif in Kenya. I requested him to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the shocking incident. He promised all-out help including fast-tracking the process of return of the body to Pakistan,” Prime Minister Shehbaz tweeted on Monday.
The National Police Service through a statement said that the journalist had breeched a roadblock necessitating for a chase which ended in the journalist’s car rolling after being shot at by the police. His driver was badly injured and taken to hospital where he is receiving medication.
The Journalist’s death sparked outrage in his native Pakistan as social media users refused to buy the “Mistaken Identity” story. Majority claimed that Arshad Sharif, an investigative journalist had been assassinated because he has been very critical to the current regime.
