Ukambani Doesn’t Deserve CS Positions, Says Gachagua

In his characteristic style of ruffling feathers the wrong way with his utterances, Deputy  President Rigathi Gachagua  made unsavory remarks on the nomination of Cabinet Secretaries hailing from the Kamba community.

While speaking in Kitui over the weekend in a thanksgiving ceremony attended by the President, Gachagua disclosed that they almost fell out with the president on his decision to nominate two members of the Kamba community in the cabinet. He had reservations because he believes that the community did not give them enough support in the August 9th election where they trounced Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“I almost fell out with our president. He shared the government with you yet the votes here were very little. He gave Mutua the Foreign affairs docket and also Peninah. I told him these people you have appointed CSs don’t have votes. He (Ruto) told me Ukambani people like him but their leaders mislead them and he will stick with them until they love him.” said the DP

President Ruto nominated Alfred Mutua for the Foreign Affairs and Diaspora docket while Penina Malonza was nominated for Tourism ministry. Should they pass the vetting process, they will be appointed by the president to head those ministries.

This is despite the region voting overwhelmingly for Azimio La Umoja candidate Raila Odinga who was being backed by the Kamba nation supremo Kalonzo Musyoka. Mr Musyoka has unsuccessfully backed the Former Premier’s stab at the presidency three times in a row.

Gachagua in his address also revealed that they have tried reaching out to Kalonzo so that they work together but the former vice president turned down the offer. He went further to ask the leaders present to ignore Kalonzo and bring their people to government.

“Wavinya, Malombe and the rest, if Stephen is lost with that man (Raila) you can bring the Ukambani people to the government.” Said Gachagua.
