The National Assembly has approved all 24 nominees to the cabinet. President Ruto unveiled the names on 27th September before being subjected to a vetting process by the parliamentary Committee on Appointments.
The committee tabled its report on the floor of the house yesterday afternoon. Kimani Ichung’wa the leader of the Majority in the house revealed that the committee had cleared all nominees except Penina Malonza who had been nominated to head the Tourism docket.
However, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also tabled the minority report showing that in addition to Penina Malonza, they found Mithika Linturi (Agriculture) and Aisha Jumwa (Public Service) unfit to hold cabinet positions.
Malonza had been rejected on grounds that she lacked the required knowledge and experience to handle the tourism docket. On the other hand, Mithika Linturi was found to be incapable due to his many civil cases against him in court and his failure to produce his degree certificate. Aisha Jumwa’s claims that she does not own a gun or a firearm license were not satisfactory to prove her innocence and earn her a ministerial docket.
This now paves way for the nominees to take the oath of office to affirm their loyalty to the constitution and pledge to do their duties as required. They will then assume their roles in government.
