Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have bid the National Assembly and Senate houses their goodbyes in emotional speeches as they resigned from their seats to take up their appointments in the Cabinet after being approved by the August house.
Duale who has been approved by parliament to hold the Defense docket told the house in an emotional speech that he will hand over his resignation letter to the speaker Moses Wetangula.
“Even as I change from one arm of government to the other, the legislature to the Executive, I will account for your support and goodwill. This is surreal moment as I bid farewell to Parliamentarians,” he said
Mr Duale had been re-elected for his fourth term in parliament having served as a leader of majority between 2013 and 2017. His loyalty to President Ruto made him fall out with the then President Uhuru Kenyatta and was thus unceremoniously removed from the house leadership.
“Even as I change from one arm of government to the other, the legislature to the Executive, I will count for your support and goodwill. This is surreal moment as I bid farewell to Parliamentarians,” he said.
The outgoing legislator further urged the parliamentarians to defend Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which he termed to be a game changer.
“I have seen CDF change lives in all constituencies in this country it has build schools and hospital. We know how unique it is to us and we know the beauty of our democracy is renegotiation to make things work,” Duale said.
Kipchumba Murkomen urged the house to always be careful when passing laws as one does not know when the tide changes and the sword he sharpened for someone else is directed to them. Murkomen had been elected for his third term as Elgeyo Marakwet County senator having once served as senate majority leader.
Wahome equally paid tribute to her colleagues and people of Kandara for allowing her serve in positions of leadership
