The national carrier Kenya Airways has asked its passengers who have opted not to travel due to the ongoing pilot’s strike to cancel their flights and offered to refund them.
Through a statement, the airline has apologized to its customers for the inconveniences caused by the ongoing strike. However they pledged to provide a solution as soon as possible even as they continue rebooking some of the customers onto other airlines.
“In case you choose not to travel, you can request for a refund for the unutilised ticket. You can also contact our Customer Care at Customer.RelationsPkenva-airways.com, the Kenya Airways Sales office or your Travel Agent for further assistance,” KQ further stated.
Kenya Airways is locked in a stalemate with the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) over what they termed poor working conditions among other reasons as the reason for downing their tools.
This comes even after Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, a lawyer warned the pilots union that the industrial action they had taken was illegal and thus they should resume their duties or face unrevealed consequences.
“The pilots are young people, they are either my age and below and they should be thinking about the future of their country and the future of the company and the consequences of their decision to millions of Kenyans.” Said the CS.
The Transport CS then went ahead to extend an olive branch by saying that they were ready to negotiate with the pilots so as to arrive to a solution. He asked them to depart from their hard stance.
“The government is willing to support you in this conversation, but please follow the law, follow the court order, make a decision that makes our country go forward and not backwards.” Murkomen said.
The ongoing strike has seen 15 flights cancelled and over 10,000 travellers left stranded.
