Babu Owino Calls For the Release of Abducted Ethiopian

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged the Kenyan government to free Samson Teklemichael . The Ethiopian Businessman was abducted in November last year, he driving his Bentley car when he was stopped in broad daylight by a man wearing traffic police uniforms and later removed by other men in civilian clothes.

The businessman of Tigray origin was then bundled into a Subaru car and he has not been seen since then. It was thought that the abduction was related to the ongoing strife in Ethiopia pitting the government of Abiy Ahmed an Oromo against TPLF rebels made up of mostly ethnic Tigrayans.

“DCI,RELEASE SAMMY. Now that there’s ETHIOPIA-TIGRAY TRUCE, the Government of Kenya/DCI should release SAMMY TEKLE MICHAEL an ETHIOPIAN CITIZEN whom they ABDUCTED in NOVEMBER LAST YEAR. The pain being experienced by his Children and Wife is too much. The DCI keeps saying that SAMMY is ALIVE but not saying where they took him.one year gone.” Said the lawmaker in a Tweet.
A peace deal was struck between the warring parties and they are in a process of disarmament. The peace deal which was spearheaded by former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his Nigerian counterpart Olusegun Obasanjo was lauded as a new dawn for the Eastern African nation.
In addition to immediate and permanent cessation to hostilities, the peace pact also called for release of political prisoners from both sides. The TPLF is also to be disbanded as it was agreed that Ethiopia’s national army was the only defense force in the country.
TPLF committed to respecting the constitutional authority of the federal government and to “cease all attempts of bringing about an unconstitutional change of government”.

In return, the Ethiopian government committed to stopping military operations targeting TPLF, restoring essential services in the region, and lifting the “terrorist” designation on the TPLF fighters.
