Manchester United could have been handed a Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati transfer boost, with it reported that Barcelona may have to sell this summer.
Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati, who have both been linked with Manchester United, are reportedly two of those who may have to be shown the door to reduce the wage bill.
United were unable to get a deal for De Jong over the line last summer, with the star not wanting to leave Barcelona after the clubs agreed a fee of £71million.
Erik ten Hag worked with De Jong at Ajax and remains interested in a deal to bring the 25-year-old to the Premier League.
United are also interested in Ansu Fati, according to reports in Spain. The 20-year-old has started just seven league games this season and his sale could help ease Barcelona’s financial problems. Xavi is keen to keep the winger at the club, but a bid of around £90m could tempt the cash-strapped Catalans into the sale of the highly-rated youngster.
In an ongoing dispute with La Liga, the Catalans have been told by the league’s chief Javier Tebas that they must lower their total wage bill by over €200m (£177m), according to Mundo Deportivo. There are various routes that the club could go down in order to do this but the most obvious would be to sell a number of Xavi’s first-team squad.
