Seeking to avoid a third successive defeat across all competitions, Arsenal return to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a London derby against Brentford in the Premier League.
The two London clubs have shared some interesting battles since The Bees were promoted to the top flight, with Ivan Toney’s tweeting infamously causing a stir in the Arsenal dressing room. Thomas Frank’s side certainly pose a threat to the Gunners again this time round, with Brentford currently seventh and chasing a European spot.
Mikel Arteta’s side were stunned 1-0 by relegation-threatened Everton last time out, while the Bees cruised to a 3-0 triumph over Southampton to further their European ambitions.
The Gunners have had a full week to reflect on the 1-0 defeat against Everton, although their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table remains intact following a favour from an unlikely source in north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who overcame Manchester City a little over 24 hours later.
With that said, it’s only a good result if Arsenal beat Brentford – thus completing the double over the west London outfit this season, after the Gunners comfortably won the reverse meeting between the two sides back in September.
But Brentford are unbeaten in nine Premier League games, in the mix for Europe and will travel across London in confident mood.
As it stands, Arsenal are not thought to be carrying any fresh injury concerns, though Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe remain injured.
While Brentford have caused problems for Arsenal before, going to the leaders – who have not lost at home all season – and winning seems a huge ask.
Brentford are still without Thomas Strakosha, Pontus Jansson and Frank Onyeka.
