The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has ratified the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) changes that kicked out Jeremiah Kioni, David Murathe and Kagwe Gichohi.
This now means that EALA MP Kanini Kega takes his position as the Secretary General of the party, Adan Keynan takes over from David Murathe as the party National Vice chairman and Susan Nyamai takes over as the party’s National Treasurer.
This is a culmination of the ongoing back and forth between those who support the former President Uhuru Kenyatta who last week affirmed his support for the Azimio coalition under the leadership of Raila Odinga and those who want the party to leave Azimio and join Kenya Kwanza coalition.
This move by the registrar of political parties leaves former President Uhuru Kenyatta at a precarious position because his powers have been clipped in the party and he might even be stripped off his position as the party leader.
President William Ruto is keen on strengthening his position in parliament by wooing opposition MPs to join him as he seeks to have a super majority in the National Assembly.
Should he achieve this, he will have the ability of amending the constitution as he wishes and this will leave the opposition team weakened.
