Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been tasked by the African Union to head the union’s observer mission during the elections in Nigeria scheduled for 25th February.
This is after eight years of Mahmadou Buhari in power. It is a closely contested election with four main candidates going for the top seat.
Moussa Faki the African Union chairman intimated that they picked Uhuru Kenyatta due to his commitment to democracy and peace throught the continent.
This shows Former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s rising profile in the continent as he has been given important assignments.
Mr Kenyatta has been a key figure in the peace process that led to the end of Ethiopian civil war pitting the TPLF and Abiy Ahmed’s government.
He is also the lead negotiator for the Nairobi peace process which seeks to bring an end to the fighting in Eastern Congo between several rebel groups and the Kinshasa government.
