City lawyer Danstan Omari has been very busy of late with him handling many high profile cases. The lawyer came to former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s aid when it was alleged that officers from the Directorate of Criminal investigations were seeking to arrest him.
Mr Omari was also among the first people to arrive at the former CS’s residence in Karen when the police made an actual raid two days ago.
But what made kenyans interested in him was when he appeared for Pokot South MP David Pkosing after he was arrested by DCI officers for grilling over his involvement in the insecurity situation in the Kerio Valley. Mr Pkosing was being accused of funding bandit attacks by providing munitions to the bandits and bailing them out once they find themselves at crossroads with the law
He repeated two times just to get into university
The city lawyer’s educational background was not that rosy. After not performing well in primary and consequently secondary school, he decided to repeat Form Three and Form Four to increase his chances of ualifying for A levels. After failing to get A level entry points at Ruiru secondary, the lawyer enrolled in form three at Kiabonyoru High school where he managed to score enough points to join form five and six at Muguga secondary.
He met former CS Matiang’i in secondary school
The high profile lawyer has been friends with Dr Fred Matiang’i since their days in secondary school back in 1984 at Kiabonyoru Secondary school.
He was called to pursue Education in Kenyatta University despite being interested in Law
The prolific lawyer did not start off as a lawyer, he first became a teacher after being enrolled as a Teaching student at Kenyatta University. As a young student, he tried to change his course so that he could pursue his dream course but he did not manage.
He was twice interdicted by the Teacher’s Service Comission
Mr Omari didnt settle well in the teaching proffession and always had run ins with his employer TSC which led to him being interdicted twice. However his appeals always went through and he was reinstated.
He paid school fees for his Childhood sweetheart
He met his wife when she was still a first year student in Kenyatta University, the lovebirds started having an affair and its at this point when Danstan Omari promised to see her through university footing all the expenses. After her completing the Undergraduate course, he further paid for her Master’s degree
He once worked as a Hotel manager
After being interdicted by the TSC, Mr Omari got a job as a hotel manager in Nyeri where he used to earn 15,000. He soon upgraded his paycheck when he worked for a club in Hurlingham where he was now earning 35000
His first business was in the Matatu industry
When he won his appeal against the second interdiction by the TSC, Mr Omari was paid a lumpsum amount of 800,000 which he used to start his Matatu business. He bought four Matatus which plied various routes
He started his first law degree at 40 years
Still having his dream of becoming a lawyer, Danstan Omari took a loan and enrolled in the University of Nairobi for an undergraduate degree in law in 2004. He was 40 years old at the time.
He completed the degree course in 2008, then joined the Kenya School of Law in 2009 before being admitted to the bar in November 2011 and graduated with a Masters’s Degree in Law in December of that same year.
He declined working with the Attorney General in favor of private practice
He resigned from his job as children’s officer at 47 years old despite his boss advising him against retiring as he will not be elligible for pension. He even suggested that he be transfered to the AG’s office which he declined.
Opened his first lawfirm with his brother as partner
After his resignation, his brother who was also a banker resigned and then they joined hands to form a law firm which propelled them into the world of advocacy and litigation
