DCI summons Dr Matiang’i’s lawyer Danstan Omari to record statement

 

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned lawyer Danstan Omari in what they termed spreading of false information.

This is in connection with the incident when it was alleged that police officers attempted to arrest former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on the night of 8th February.

In a letter dated 21st February, Mr Omari is summoned to record a statement at the DCI headquarters on 22nd February 2023.

The letter is signed by detective Michael K. Sang, a superintendent of police at DCI headquarters. Mr Sang urges the lawyer to turn up without fail or he shall be liable to prosecution.

“We are investigating allegations of Publication of False Information contrary to section 23 of the computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offences in regard to alleged invasion and raid of the residence of the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, Dr. Fred Matiang’i on the 8 t h 9th day of February 2023 allegedly by a “battalion” and/or “garrison” of police officers.” read part of the letter.

“I have reasons to believe that you, Danstan Omari, an Advocate of the High court of Kenya, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” he said.

Danstan Omari is one of the lawyers who came to the aid of Dr Matiang’i on that fateful day with Omari placing the number of lawyers at 200. Azimio leader Raila Odinga also went to Dr Matiang’is home in solidarity.

The police have since denied any involvement in the raid and have consequently asked Dr Matiang’i to provide evidence of the raid
