Comedian Eric Omondi was arraigned at milimani law courts on Wednesday morning where he was charged with unlawful assembly and public nuisance.
Omondi together with other 16 youths who had joined him denied the charges and they were each released on a Sh10,000 cash bail each or a Sh20,000 bond plus one surety.
The matter will be mentioned on March 6th for the Pre trial even as lawyers Danstan Omari and Kimani Wachira were granted access to witness statements and other materials relevant to the case.
The celebrated comedian told the court through their lawyers that they were just expressing their concern over the high cost of living that is currently facing Kenyans.
“They went to parliament to get a solution on the current high cost of living. I urge court to take judicial notice that 6 million Kenyans are at the verge of starving “ Omari said
He told court that the young men represented 55 million Kenyans at Parliament to tell MPs to do something about the issue.
“The state has criminalized these national heroes fighting for them. They are irritants to the government,” he said.
