Tanzanian Tycoon promises cheap gas after setting up Plant in Kenya

Taifa Gas, a giant player in the Liquified Petroleum Gas industry with its parent company in Tanzania, has set base in Kenya with the groundbreaking ceremony being graced by President William Ruto at Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone in Mombasa.

With the Tanzanian Billionaire Rostam Aziz constructing his 30,000-tonne facility to handle gas, it will pit him against Mombasa Tycoon Mohamed Jaffer whose 25,000 Tonne facility already handles 90 percent of the gas in the Kenyan Market.

Cooking gas prices have currently hit a high in the Kenyan market with a 13 kg cylinder averaging at 3500 while the 6kg one retailing at 2000. The entry of Taifa Gas is expected to bring the cost much lower.

Taifa Gas, which is currently the market leader in Tanzania, sells at prices that are 22 percent lower than Kenyan prices.
