Malala Ditches Mudavadi Party, named UDA Secretary General

Cleophas Malala, has ditched Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) and joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The former senator who unsuccessfully contested for the Kakamega County gubernatorial seat on an ANC ticket has subsequently been named the UDA Secretary General replacing Nominated Senator Veronica Maina as the ruling party’s spokesperson.

The changes were communicated by outgoing party SG Veronica Maina after a National Executive Council meeting held at Hustler Center.

Other changes in the leadership thrust Embu governor Cecily Mbarire unto the ruling party’s National Chairperson, replacing Johnstone Muthama who resigned from the position to take up a role in the Parliamentary Service Commission. He will serve as a non-MP commissioner at the PSC after being at the helm of UDA since its inception

East African Legislative Assembly member Hassan Omar has also been named as the National vice chairman, taking over from Kipruto Kirwa who fell out with the party in the run up to last year’s election and joined Azimio.

Japhet Nyakundi has also replaced Omingo Magara as National treasurer. The party officials will hold the positions on an interim basis as the party prepares for party officials’ elections
