Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has come out to castigate the Kenya Kwanza regime which he claims has failed to run the education sector, leaving students, teachers and parents suffering.
The celebrated lawmaker cited the chaos and uncertainty in the junior secondary schools, through high school all the way to universities, noting that nothing is clear anymore in this very critical sector.
Hon Owino has been very passionate about the education sector and even helped learners in class 8 and those in form four revise for their national exams KCPE and KCSE respectively.
In a press briefing from Parliament, the celebrated lawmaker challenged the government to at least brief Kenyans about how things are going on with regards to the enrollment into Junior high school.
He also raised the question of inadequate teachers in the Junior secondary schools as there were reports of learners not having teachers even as the government announced the employment of teachers .
In some cases, it has been reported that parents are being asked to foot the cost of employing extra teachers in the Junior High school.
“Education is too important to be allowed to wallow in the confusion we are witnessing when people who are charged to make it work are just sitting in offices and taking per diems” added the lawmaker.
He also questioned the manner in which universities are being run with courses being scrapped off, employees being sacked and fees being increased. All these he questioned the unilateral manner in which the decisions were being made without the inputs of key stakeholders like students.
Hon Babu further disclosed that he will soon be moving round the country with his fellow parliamentarians as they seek to know what is really ailing the education sector
