Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu appeared to be throwing shade at Kenya’s financial position. In her address to Tanzanians, the head of state vouched for her government as she stated that they are in a better financial position as compared to other East African nations which are struggling with foreign currency reserves.
“Some people are complaining that the economy is not doing well but the reality is that we are doing much better despite the challenges we are having. We are better off than our East African neighbors as they are all struggling with foreign currency reserves” Said President Samia Suluhu.
The head of state also disclosed that her country has enough foreign currency reserves to cater for four months of imports while other do not even have reserves to last them three weeks.
In an apparent swipe at Kenya, President Suluhu even said that some countries are even asking the Tanzanian government to guarantee them so that they can be given oil on credit.
Kenya has been struggling with foreign exchange reserves with the strain being felt by importers as the shilling steadily loses value.
