Quest for Control of Jubilee gets physical

There was an altercation yesterday when rival factions of Jubilee party faced off at National Museums of Kenya. At an event dubbed Peoples Dialogue Festival both rival Secretary Generals showed up and both wanted to be recognized as the party’s Secretary General.

The event which had been organized by the Center for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) had invited parties and their Secretary Generals were to be panelists. When Kanini Kega tried to take up the Jubilee Party’s slot things got messy.

This infuriated some of the youths who chased Kanini Kega out of the meeting and escorted him outside the venue while hurling expletives on him.

The EALA MP later accused the former Ndaragwa MP for sponsoring goons.

“As Jubilee party, we do not fight nor do we have acrimonious disagreements. We always agree and disagree with respect. Our institutions are peaceful,” said Kega.

Kioni on his part, defended the move and termed it as action from members of the party who wanted to create space for their Secretary General.

Kioni, on his part, dismissed Kega as the party’s Secretary General saying he has no right to represent the party on such forums.

“We were invited to a dialogue forum, and the panellists were political party secretary generals. Jubilee Party members who accompanied me were disappointed when they discovered that someone else had already signed himself in as acting SG. What happened was that Jubilee members decided to make space for their SG,” Kioni explained

“We have no history of sponsoring goons and it is very unkind for someone who has been in the party to term his own members as goons. I am still the party SG and that is the record available at the Office of Registrar of Political Parties,” he added.
