Leaders allied to President Ruto have revealed the plan which President William Ruto Seeks to use in a bid to counter Raila’s threat to a mass action.
Raila announced the start of mass action on Thursaday after the expiry of the 14 day ultimatum the Azimio leader had given to the Kenya Kwanza regime. The mass action plan will culminate into a major procession on 20th March
The leaders are putting on a brave face in public but in private they are worried because they know the mass action is capable of especially with the harsh economic times.
Security agencies have been put on high alert to cordon off state installations like state lodges so as to keep away protestors. The police cordoned roads leading to the State House, Nairobi, as well as roads leading to the State Lodge in Kisumu on Wednesday.
The ruling alliance has also instructed its politicians to tone down verbal attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family, to avoid cementing his bond with Mr Odinga.
“The heat is increasing in the camp because of Baba’s actions at a time when we are facing an economic meltdown. We are not at peace because we do not know what Baba’s mass action would lead to and that is why some of us have been asking our bosses not to go after Uhuru and his allies,” said one of the leaders from Mount Kenya.
President Ruto is also mulling over the appointment of Chief Cabinet Secretaries (CAS) from opposition bastions so a to diffuse the notion that his government is only favoring the Kalenjin and Kikuyu nations who voted for him overwhelmingly.
Another plan is to stop the prosecution of top officials from the Uhuru Kenyatta regime as that will fan up their ethnic communities and set them up against the government, something Mr Odinga will be too glad to capitalize on.
