CS Moses Kuria, Isaac Ruto and others fold parties to join UDA

President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) received a major boost after five parties affiliated to the Kenya Kwanza coalition folded their parties and joined the ruling party.

Trade, Industry and Investments Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi, Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s Chama cha Mashinani, Irungu Nyakera’s Farmer’s Party, Martin Wambora’s Umoja Na Maendeleo Party and Billow Kerrow’s Economic Freedom Party have all dissolved their parties to join UDA.

UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala welcomed the move in a statement announcing the dissolution. Malala welcomed the parties to UDA, saying the party is committed to rewriting the “tradition of political parties being episodic”.

“From today, the parties present here are no longer partners but part of the UDA family,” Malala said.

Mr Malala who has been on a mission to have the parties dissolve and join UDA disclosed that they will become full members of UDA and even participate in the soon to be launched membership recruitment drive and party elections slated for August to choose party officials

Malala had earlier asked politicians holding senior government positions in the Kenya Kwanza government to dissolve their parties and join the President’s party something that did not resonate well with some affiliate parties.

Speaking in Ahero, Kisumu county, during a UDA party membership recruitment exercise early this month, Malala said Kenya Kwanza leaders who are still clinging to their parties to choose between being in government or holding on to their political outfits.

“You have no business being a Cabinet Secretary if you are still holding onto your party,” Malala said.

Speaker Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya , Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC and Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap have all rejected calls to dissolve their parties even as they still pledge their loyalty to the president and promise to still support his 2027 bid.
