Rift Valley Athletes made Kenya known internationally, nothing wrong with us getting state jobs- Aaron Cheruiyot

Kericho Senator and Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot  has come out to defend government appointments which have received backlash from a section of Kenyans over their skewed nature.

Kenyans led by opposition leader Raila Odinga are questioning the criteria upon which state officers are employed  as the government is seen to favor people from the Rift Valley region.

Mr Cheruiyot defended the appointments saying that during the last regime, many Kalenjin professionals were sacked by the Uhuru Kenyatta regime after their falling out with his then deputy William Ruto

“The last administration fired our people like sacks of maize. The fact that we are not people who lament does not mean we were satisfied,” the Senator stated.

He pointed out that the community contributed heavily to Dr Ruto’s bid for presidency in the highly contested election that saw Ruto announced winner. Likewise, according to him, the community deserves the state jobs as a reward for supporting President Ruto.

The firebrand senator went ahead to tease that Kalenjins have contributed alot to the nation including giving the nation an international limelight through athletics.

“In any case, for Kenya to be known internationally, it is because of the great athletes from this region. What is wrong with us landing jobs in the government,” stated the Kericho senator
