Protestors will decide whether they storm Statehouse or not- Eugine Wamalwa

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa has disclosed that the Azimio protests are people driven and the leadership will not decide what the people do, if the people decide to storm statehouse, so be it.

The former minister went ahead to warn security agencies led by the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome against harming unarmed protestors. He told them that every individual police officer will take his or her own responsibility should they terrorize a peaceful protest which is anchored in the constitution.

He urged men and women in uniform not to be misused to brutalize and harm their fellow compatriots.

“I would urge  the police to allow Kenyans to freely demonstrate whether in Nairobi or any other city and town. Its not just happening here in Kenya, it will also happen in South Africa. Right from Cape to Cairo, there will be demonstrations on Monday”

He also reiterated that Article 37 of the constitution allows Kenyans to demonstrate, picket and assembleanywhere and at any time to show their dissatisfaction as long as they are not armed.

“On  Monday 20th March, we shall go ahead with our mass action plans. We want to reassure Kenyans that our march will be peaceful, its a march of the voiceless suffering Kenyans. Article 37 of our constitution allows us to have these kind of conversations.” said Mr Wamalwa.

The Azimio brigade is calling for mass action after Dr Ruto’s government failed to heed to their demands which included the lowering of the cost of living, opening of the servers used in the 2022 elections, to stop the process of hiring IEBC commissioners, among other grievances.

The Azimio leadership has kept people guessing on the next course of action as they have not yet communicated the assembly point. When asked about where the supporters are supposed to converge, the former Defense CS was non committal

“We have invited Kenyans to come to Nairobi. What we are asking them is to march peacefully and protest in their own way” The former CS said.
