Today, unlike other Mondays, the city is deserted with little to no traffic at all. Most shop are closed as Kenyans shun the city center.
There is a heavy police presence in the city as police in anti-riot gear patrol the streets. Barricades have also been placed on strategic roads like procession way.
Moreover, other roads including University Way, Dennis Pritt and Arboretum Road were barricaded with security officers deployed in the area.
Other roads barricaded include Juja Road near the Moi Air Base – which also had a heavy presence of officers. Motorists plying the road were forced to go around the barricade.
Security officers were additionally deployed at different points in the Central Business District (CBD) limiting movement with most affected roads including Harambee Avenue, City Hall Road and Parliament Road.
Moi Avenue in the CBD was also barricaded by the police officers who were deployed in large numbers in the city.
The city center is calm save for some activity around KICC where the Azimio leader announced as the meeting point. Police have barricaded the entry into KICC
Protestors are already taking police into running battles i opposition strongholds of Mathare and Kibera as they try to contain the irate protestors using teargas and shooting in the air
Ngong road has become a battleground as police prevent a milling crowd of protestors trying to access the city center
