Another day, another death caused by an alleged fall off a building. This has become a norm along Thika Road especially around Roysambu and Kahawa areas.

Cases of people just falling off buildings have become rampant with the latest one being Bungoma politician Joseph Kubende whom police and witnesses say he fell off from the fourth floor of an apartment in Roysambu area.

Joseph Kubende a popular political mobilizer  straddled the Bukusu-dominated counties of Bungoma and Transnzoia as he shored up support for his preferred candidates in a way only he could.

The talented singer entertained political gatherings with his melodious voice and tunes designed to chide opponents while praising his preferred candidates. He was an irresistible crowd puller for Bungoma politicians as he would effortlessly make crowds dance and sing.

He did this while throwing into the mix Kibukusu sayings and proverbs much to the amusement of the crowds. The dexterity with which he did his campaigns made him a political hotcake as politicians jostled for his support.

In 2017 the deceased supported Wycliffe Wangamati who went on to win the Bungoma gubernatorial race against Ken Lusaka. Wangamati rewarded Mr Kubende with an appointment as the Chief Protocol officer in the county government of Bungoma.

He later switched his allegiance to Former CS Eugine Wamalwa whom he served as Personal Assistant and went ahead to campaign for DAP-Kenya’s candidates including current Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya in the 2022 elections

Kubende who was a giant in literature having authored many books and worked as a lecturer at the Kigali Institute of Education, had secured a job in the US where he was currently living before jetting into the country for a short stint. He was expected to jet back to the US on 24th March.

The cause of his fall is not yet clear as police are currently investigating whether he was pushed or he committed suicide.
