Raila Odinga to go back to the People even as Ruto names team for Bipartisan Talks

The Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition has called for a return to public engagements on 13th April even as bipartisan talks with the Kenya Kwanza regime are in the formative stages.

The coalition had called for a truce with the government after president William Ruto asked his nemesis Raila Odinga to call off the street protests and engage the government as a way to resolve the impasse.

In a statement by the Coalition’s Executive Council Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya, the coalition seeks to start a series of public engagement town hall meetings which according to Azimio, they are for the purposes of explaining to the people the next course of action after suspension of the biweekly protests.

The first town hall meeting will be held on 13th April 2023 in Nairobi before proceeding to a people’s baraza at Kamukunji grounds on 16th April 2023

The protests had been called by Azimio to pressure the government meet their demands which included, lowering the cost of living, opening and audit of election servers, protection of multiparty and adherence to inclusivity during the employment of civil servants.

Azimio has since named Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo as the chairman of the Azimio side in the bipartisan talks. In addition to Otiende Amollo, Azimio team includes, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Suba North MP Milly Odhiambo, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Malindi MP Stella Mnyazi, Pokot South MP David Pkosing and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina.

Kenya Kwanza on the other hand have fronted Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri, Tharaka MP George Murugara, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Taita Taveta Woman Representative Lydia Haika.
