Comedian Jasper Muthomi, also known as MC Jessy, discussed the significant financial investment he made during his political campaign for the Imenti South parliamentary seat. Even though he didn’t win against Shadrack Mwiti Ithinji of the Jubilee Party, Jessy revealed that he spent around KSh 58 million on his campaign. In an interview with SPM Buzz, he emphasized the significance of funding and careful planning in politics. He mentioned that his campaign lasted for 12 months, and although he didn’t spend billions or even half a million, the financial commitment was substantial and deeply personal.

“I campaigned for 12 months. My friends supported me and I didn’t spend KSh 1 billion or even half a million. But I spent money. My pocked felt it. I used about KSh 58 million. A campaign requires strategy. I lost it to the candidate who was smarter than me.
He pointed out that he was competing against a 71-year-old billionaire who had run for the seat four times before, and this was Jessy’s first attempt. He speculated that he might have lost this time due to sympathy rather than manifestos and strategies, and his opponent’s substantial financial resources also played a role since he spent ten times more than Jessy.
Jessy’s revelation underscores the high cost of pursuing political office in Kenya and highlights the importance of strategic planning and resource allocation in political campaigns.
