Just before 11 p.m. on Monday, the Royal Air Force, carrying the King and Queen, touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
This arrival precedes the official commencement of a four-day state visit to Kenya on Tuesday, October 31.
The purpose of this visit is to honor the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations.
The King and Queen will travel to Nairobi City, Mombasa, and nearby regions.
During their agenda, they will deliberate on collaborative efforts between Kenya and the UK in addressing climate change, enhancing youth employment, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring a more stable and secure future.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will meet with various individuals, including President Ruto, the First Lady, Kenyan government officials, UN personnel, CEOs, religious leaders, youth, aspiring leaders, and Kenyan Marines training alongside UK Royal Marines.
The King will also attend an event honoring the late Professor Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, along with Wangari’s daughter Wanjira Mathai.
The tour will acknowledge the challenging aspects of Kenya’s and the UK’s shared history, such as the Emergency period from 1952 to 1960.
Throughout the tour, the King will strive to gain a deeper understanding of the injustices endured by the Kenyan people during this time.
Additionally, the King and Queen will pay visits to Kenya’s 1963 independence declaration site, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Uhuru Gardens, and explore a recently opened museum dedicated to the country’s history.
