Lionel Messi, the forward for Argentina and Inter Miami, secured his eighth Men’s Ballon d’Or award.
The 36-year-old was honored at the event in Paris for his contribution to Argentina’s World Cup victory in Qatar last year.

Jude Bellingham, an England and Real Madrid midfielder, claimed the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s finest player under the age of 21.
Messi triumphed in the Ballon d’Or category, surpassing Manchester City’s forward, Erling Haaland.
France’s forward Kylian Mbappe, who scored a historic hat-trick in the World Cup final but faced a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to Argentina, secured the third position.
“It’s nice to be here once more to enjoy this moment,” Messi said. “To be able to win the World Cup and achieve my dream.”
“I couldn’t imagine having the career I’ve had and everything I’ve achieved, the fortune I’ve had to be part of the best team in history.
“All of them [Ballon d’Or awards] are special for different reasons.”
Haaland, the international from Norway, achieved a remarkable feat by netting 36 goals in 35 league matches and a total of 52 across all competitions. These impressive performances played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s triumphant season, securing the Treble of the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup titles.
In recognition of his goal-scoring prowess, Haaland received the Gerd Muller Trophy for being the top goalscorer.
“I want to thank Manchester City, the whole club,” said Haaland.
“I also want to thank my family and all the people around me for making me who I am today.”
