Manchester United’s defense of the League Cup concluded with a lackluster performance, suffering a 3-0 loss at home to Newcastle on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Arsenal faced a convincing 3-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham.

Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory against Bournemouth, earning their spot in the quarterfinals, while Chelsea defeated Championship team Blackburn 2-0.
In a rematch of last year’s final, won 2-0 by Erik ten Hag’s team, both managers fielded significantly altered lineups at Old Trafford. However, it was Newcastle’s squad depth that shone through, causing United to experience their eighth defeat in 15 matches this season – their worst start to a campaign since 1962/63.
Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, young full-backs, made a significant impact for Newcastle, helping Eddie Howe’s team gain revenge for their earlier defeat at Wembley in February.
Livramento powerful and forward charge created the opportunity for Miguel Almiron to score the first goal in the 28th minute.
On the other hand, Lewis Hall, who is on loan from Chelsea, executed a spectacular volley from the edge of the box just eight minutes later to find the back of the net.
Joe Willock’s individual sprint and remarkable goal effectively extinguished any hope of a comeback by Manchester United as it occurred at the hour mark.
