The demise of Godliver Omondi, the designated Member of County Assembly (MCA), has plunged Kakamega County into sorrow.
Following a short period of illness, the MCA breathed her last at Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu, as reported in a statement issued by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula on Monday. “She was admitted to the ICU wing on Saturday after suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes but succumbed today (Monday) at 6 pm,” he said.

The lawmaker was in her second tenure, having received a nomination from the Orange Democratic Party during the Third Assembly after the 2022 general elections.
Omondi’s initial term, spanning from 2017 to 2022 in the Second Assembly, saw her as an elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party, representing the populace of Kholera Ward in Matungu subcounty.
Earlier, she held the position of a senator from 2013 to 2017, advocating for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), having secured a nomination from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Deputy Governor Savula offered a tribute to the late MCA, acknowledging her as a legislator who served with unwavering principles and wholehearted dedication.
“Hon Omondi was a key member of the Assembly’s leadership where she served as the deputy minority leader between 2017-2020. She will be remembered as one of the pioneer MCAs of the Assembly Disability Caucus,” he said.
At the time of her passing, Omondi held roles in various committees, such as the Liaison, chairing the Appointments Committee, and participating in the Budget and Appropriations, Social Services, Youth, Culture, and Sport committees.
Deputy Governor Savula conveyed his sympathies to the family of the deceased MCA.
“On behalf of the County Assembly of Kakamega, we mourn our departed colleague and send heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Hon. Omondi, We pray to God to give the family Strength and Fortitude at this moment of pain and sorrow,” he said.
