Meru County’s Governor, Kawira Mwangaza, openly supports the potential dissolution of the county, expressing a willingness to align with residents’ desires for such an outcome. She firmly believes that if dismantling the county could provide relief to its inhabitants, she would enthusiastically endorse their decision.

Despite grappling with challenges throughout her 14-month tenure, Governor Mwangaza asserts her unwavering commitment to serving the people of Meru, emphasizing the 72% absorption budget as tangible proof of her dedication to enhancing the county’s overall well-being.
Governor Mwangaza maintains an optimistic outlook regarding her future, expressing confidence that residents, if satisfied with her performance, will choose to re-elect her. Her trust extends to both God and the people of Meru.
Simultaneously, an additional petition seeking the impeachment of Governor Mwangaza’s Cabinet members has been formally submitted to the Meru County Assembly. The filing, backed by over 15 residents, alleges that the executive committee members have transgressed the Constitution and statutory laws.
The individuals submitting the petition make various accusations, encompassing Governor Mwangaza’s defense in the Senate impeachment proceedings, the unlawful assumption of powers, mismanagement of public services, facilitation of embezzlement, disruption of healthcare management, and the use of disparaging language against the Deputy Governor.
They implore the County Assembly to consider the petition urgently and commence the impeachment procedure as outlined in the Standing Orders.
As per Section 123 of the County Governments Act, a petition seeking the suspension of a county government can be lodged with the President if the county partakes in actions contrary to the welfare of its citizens. The petition necessitates endorsement from at least 10% of the registered voters in the county. Within a 14-day period after receiving the petition, the President submits a report to a supreme body overseeing intergovernmental relations.
