In what seems to be a battle intensified between the two allies turned foes, former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s security together with that of his mother’s Mama Ngina has been withdrawn.

Mama Ngina is said to be stuck in Mombasa because her security together with her drivers have been withdrawn. The former first family is entitled to enjoy state security and pension with Mama Ngina having been a former first lady and Uhuru Kenyatta being the immediate retired president

This comes on the backdrop of a war of words between the former president and his successor William Ruto. With Dr Ruto accusing the former president of sponsoring Azimio La Umoja rallies as a way to avoid the tax question.

President Ruto’s allies have over the past one week intensified their attacks on president Uhuru Kenyatta over what they termed as tax evasion.

Yesterday Nyandarua senator John Methu wrote to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) asking them to investigate former president Uhuru’s companies for tax evasion.

The lawmaker cited the 2019 merger of the Commercial Bank Africa Limited (CBA) and NIC Group (NIC), the former being owned by the Kenyatta family, as well as Brookside Dairy Limited, ENKE Investments Ltd and the buying of the 5G- specific spectrum license.

Another Ruto ally, Nandi senator Samson Cherargei who has written to the Senate for the revocation of the estate duty act which exempted the former presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi from paying estate duty, asked the president to withdraw government vehicles and security from president Uhuru Kenyatta as he was still active in politics.

Senator Cherargei said “Under the law when you retire as president, you are given some government support like, vehicles, security, office and pension. But the former president has not retired from politics and thus the government should withdraw the security and government vehicles till he retires from politics.”
